• Leave the lights on – When you leave your lights on, you will ensure that a burglar or other criminal can’t hide when they’re around your home. Plus, this will make your home look like it’s always full, which is another deterrent.
• Hide your valuables – Take some time to get a safe or to take your valuables to a safety deposit box. This will ensure your valuables can’t be stolen.

Get with Your Neighbors

The next thing you can do to decrease crime is to talk with your neighbors about being safer. You will want to make sure that you are creating a group of people who are all going to look out for others. Whether this mean that you have a neighborhood safety group that meets once a month or you simply promise to call the police if anything looks fishy in your neighborhood, it really doesn’t matter. What does matter is that you all talk to each other about safety concerns and how you will all work to prevent crime.

Talk to the Local Police

If your neighborhood is experiencing more crimes, make sure that you talk to your local police. They can help you get the support you need and they might try to have additional cars in your area. While they will already be aware of the crime in your area from the reports you and your neighbors file, having it on record that you have requested support will only help to protect you more.

When you want to decrease crime, you don’t have to move to a new area. All you need to do is to become more aware of your surroundings, work together with your neighbors, and talk to the local police.
